God Talks to People, Are You Crazy???

I was watching the Bill O’Reilly program during the first week of
January and he started discussing Pat Robertson. Every year Mr. Robertson
spends some time in the mountains praying to God and asking him about the
coming year. Sometimes the events happen, but sometimes they don’t.
Mr. O’Reilly intimated that Mr. Robertson must be crazy if he thinks God talks
to him. Then he and his guest chuckled a little bit.
If God does not talk to people, how was the bible written?
O’Reilly says he believes in the bible, but he doesn’t believe God can talk to
men. That’s an impossible situation. How does he think the men who
wrote the bible knew what to write, by osmosis?
Let’s look at the bible and see what God has to say.
I Kings 19:9-12
9 And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and
behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, "What
are you doing here, Elijah?"
10 So he said, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God of
hosts; for the children of
11 Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before
the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind
tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the
LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was
not in the earthquake;
12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire;
and after the fire a still small voice. (NKJ)
Therefore, we found out that God talks to you. Maybe some of his
children do not know how to listen, so they think no one knows how to
listen. God does not talk in a loud audible voice, but in a still small
voice. Could God talk to you in an audible voice? God can do anything.
So how does God talk to you? Usually he talks to you in your mind.
Did you ever start thinking about a friend and called them on the telephone,
and after talking to them realize they needed someone to talk to? When I
was younger in the Lord, I thought I was really smart. Then I found out
it was the Holy Spirit telling me things. The more you listen to God, the
more He uses you. Just be sure to praise God and always give Him the
glory.
God uses shopping with me. I’ll start thinking I need something
and when I get to the store, I’ll see someone I know. After talking to them, I’ll realize God sent
me. This is another way God talks to you.
When you are thinking about one thing and an idea pops into your head
about something completely different, that’s God. God doesn’t only talk
to you about spiritual things. You may think this is silly, but once when
I was teaching seventh grade math in a new school, I had several visual
learners. Therefore, I used an overhead. My overhead was on a tall
cart. I tried to get a shorter cart but they didn’t have one, so I had to
stand instead of being able to sit down and teach. After teaching this
way for about six months, one day I heard in my mind, why don’t you buy a
taller stool? I knew it wasn’t my idea, it was God.
What kind of father would God be if He didn’t communicate with His
children? Think of your relationship with your earthly father. What
if you talked to him all the time but he never responded, what kind of a
relationship would that be? Your heavenly Father is the same way.
He communicates with you all of the time. If you did not realize God has
been trying to communicate with you, all you have to do is listen and then
praise Him.
