1 Timothy 2:1-2
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

"First of all," Paul urges all supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanks, to the Father "be made for all men."

We are to pray for kings and all who are in positions of authority.

The reason we are to pray for those in authority is for our benefit.

It is so we may live in peace.

1 Timothy 2:3-4
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

To pray for those in authority is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior!

That should be reason enough.

Another reason is that God wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

That literally says that God now desires all to be saved {by an act of His will} (Gr. thelei-qelei).

That Greek word is indicative, which is indicative of what the Author feels SHALL happen.  If you think that the author was Timothy, you may debate the point I am about to make.  But, if you are aware of the spiritual fact that God is the Author of Timothy you know that this verse indicates that all men SHALL come to the knowledge of the Truth!

For many that seems to be an impossible task, however the Greek text indicates that God Himself brings it to pass.

1 Timothy 2:5-6
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Verse five tells us that there is One Mediator, the man Christ Jesus!

The Roman Catholic Church, from the least congregant down to the Pope rejects that one concept and they declare that Mary is a co-mediator.

All Roman Catholics have declared their rejection of Christ.

Mary did not die for our sins, nor does she have the power to forgive them.

The RCC is built on a lie!

There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, and that man is Christ Jesus!

Then how can we proclaim the trinity?

That is a fair question!

For the answer we must go back to the beginning and the Hebrew language.

When God decided to create man, He said, "let Us make man in Our image."

That translation may be found in the Jewish Masoretic Text translation (The Jewish Publication Society of America/Copyright1917, 1945,1955) Genesis 1:26, page 4.

In that same translation, we find the greatest of all Hebrew confessions, The Shema. From Deuteronomy 6:4 (page 245), "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one."

The Lord is "one", but not in the sense of being individually singular.

The Hebrew word translated "one" is "Echad".

Echad indicates one group or bunch.

From the beginning of the Hebrew text, God has been declared to be ONE group.

The Hebrew language declares God to be ONE group, one in harmony.

Within that grouping, the Son serves the interests of the Father.

The Holy Spirit serves the interests of the Father and the Son. All is in harmony!

The Holy Spirit was sent to declare the Son (John 14:26).

The Father shall watch over the Son until His kingdom is established (Psalm 110:1).

The Son shall turn His Kingdom over to the Father (1 Corinthians 15:28).

All points to a time when God shall be all in all (1 Corinthians 15:28).

The interweaving is so intricate and so tight that they may not be separated and are always working in harmony even though they may work individually.

Hear, O Israel---The Lord our God--The Lord is ECHAD!

1 Timothy 2:6 is where many commentators start meandering around the Bible looking for an out.  However, the language is plain and it is correct.

1 Timothy 2:6 cannot be explained using mainstream theology.

It must be explained through the counsel of the Bible, not tradition.

Verse six is one that few are willing to take at face value.

Verse six tells us plainly that Christ Jesus gave Himself as a ransom for all, and that the truth of that will be declared at the proper time.

That does not make the teaching invalid, but it does explain that the teaching of Christ’s complete ransom has a season in which is shall be proclaimed!

1 Timothy 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

Paul was ordained as a preacher to the Gentiles so that the truth of God’s grace could be proclaimed.

Do you believe in the grace Paul proclaimed?

Many do not!

1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

Because of the grace he received, Paul wants all to pray and praise God.

We are to be lifting up holy hands as a sign of honor to Him.

1 Timothy 2:8-10
9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in odest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Women are to dress modestly.

In Paul’s day that would have put them in contrast to pagan temple prostitutes.

1 Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

There is a social reason why this verse is here.

In Paul’s time, the Synagogues could be places of loud discussions between husbands and wives.

We find a phrase, "with all subjection."

There is no verse in the entire Bible that says men are supposed to make women subject to them.

All subjection between husband and wife is to be accomplished in love through mutual consent and not through any physical or mental intimidation.

1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

This is not an admonishment to all men and all women.

Any that take it to be so are not mature Christians!

Many Church "men" are pathetic teachers.

Many Church "women" are excellent teachers.

Yet, I know some supposed men of the Church that are so biblically ignorant that they refuse to learn from a godly woman.

They are just children that have grown old.

1 Timothy 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

This is something that needs understanding.

Adam was created first.

For that reason, men are to be the spiritual head.

They are but not necessarily fit top be the financial head.

Just because a person may be able to earn money at a place of employment does not make him/her able to make sound financial decisions.

The financial head should be the one that has the best financial mind.

That may very well be the woman.

As the spiritual leader, it is the man’s duty to pray that each member of the household succeed---in Christ.

1 Timothy 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

While it may be that Adam was not deceived, he did give in to sin.

That is why there is sin inbred within us today.

It ius our sin nature!

Read Romans, chapter 6!

Genesis 3:6-7a
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
7a Then the eyes of both of them were opened…(NKJV)

Their eyes were not opened until the man ate. T

he woman may have been part of the fall, but it was upon the man’s shoulders that the cause must be placed.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned-- (NKJV/emphasis added).

The Greek word translated "man" is singular.

That indicates that the act of rebellion was the result of a single person's action.

Since Adam had to eat before their eyes were opened. It follows that if he had not eaten sin would not have entered mankind.

1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Due to the fact that Man caused the sin, women "shall be saved" through "childbearing" if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with self-control.

"Childbearing" may indicate physical human nurturing.

It may also mean spiritual nurturing.
